Lori Thompson began using the RobotLAB VR kit after searching for new technologies to engage her students in the classroom, "I first started looking into VR kits last school year.  I did some research and found RobotLab's kit to be the most economical" she said.

What she loves most about the kit, is the excitement that it brings for her students as they are learning. "I have used these with several different classes and grade levels- and all ages of students (and teachers) get excited. I think the students like using technology and they like to be immersed in what it is they are studying"

Her favorite VR expedition is The Great Barrier Reef.

Lori prepares her classes by giving her students a quick rundown of how to handle the VR goggles. She also lets them know that if they start feeling funny/dizzy they should stop looking and give their eyes a break. The lessons usually last about 20 minutes.

The educational impact that Lori has noticed is that this technology allows students to go places they may never visit.  "It is very engaging and it gets kids talking. They get excited about what they see and they want to share that with others"

Lori Believe that this kit has impacted the entire district. Students in all buildings of the school have been invited to use the devices. So far, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders have used them!

The direct impact that Lori has noticed with her students is that this technology gets kids excited about school and education. And it gives them a different way to "see" what they are learning.

"I am very excited to be able to bring this to my district". said Lori. The only drawback is sharing 10 devices with an entire school district.  I purchased our kit with grant money and I'm on the lookout for other grant opportunities.  My goal is to have at least a class set of 20-30 devices.  We just don't have the money in our budget to purchase them.  If anyone out there reading this wants to sponsor another kit for our school, please contact me! lthomson@scsrockets.org
