Where AMRs Fit In An Electrical Distribution DC

Where autonomous mobile robots fit in an electrical distribution DC: receiving, cut room, staging, and will-call moves.

Electrical product is heavy and awkward. Wire reels, conduit bundles, fixture cartons, and gear move between zones many times before they leave the building, and most of those moves are an associate walking a cart or a pallet jack across the floor.

1. The Moves That Repeat

  • Receiving to put-away: inbound product to its storage location.
  • Cut room to staging: cut wire and cable to the order’s staging lane.
  • Staging to will-call or dock: completed orders to pickup or outbound.
  • Returns and restock: product back from the counter to the shelf.

2. What An AMR Does On Those Routes

An autonomous mobile robot (AMR) runs mapped routes between fixed points. The Pudu T300 carries up to 300 kg (661 lb) and needs no fixed tracks, rails, or driver. Staff load it, send it, and it shares aisles with people and forklifts.

3. Picking The First Route

The best first route is the one with the most trips and the longest walk. For many distributors that is cut room to staging; for others it is receiving to put-away. A walkthrough maps the trips per shift and the distance before any robot is chosen.

4. Measuring It

Count trips per shift and minutes per trip before the pilot. After deployment, the minutes the robot covers are the hours returned to the pick face and the counter.

5. Where AMRs Do Not Fit

AMRs carry loads on routes. They do not replace forklifts for pallet racking, and they do not pick. They work alongside your automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) and your people, taking the walking out of repeat moves.
